Highway breakdown: rules and steps
On motorways, order matters for safety. Follow this short protocol if you must stop due to technical failure on M0, M1, M3, M5, or M7.
Immediate steps
- Move to the hard shoulder and turn on hazard lights.
- Put on a reflective vest and move all passengers behind the barrier.
- Place the warning triangle at the required distance.
- Call 112 if there is injury or immediate danger.
When to request towing
If the vehicle is not safely drivable, do not improvise. Request towing and share exact location details (road, direction, km marker, nearest exit).
